At The Grossman Burn Center we recognize that a burn injury affects more than just the physical body. The nature of these injuries often brings intense psychological reactions such as posttraumatic stress, depression and anxiety. And these reactions are not just limited to patients. Spouses, partners, children, parents and extended family members can also be emotionally affected by a loved one’s burn injury.
To help people cope with their injury and treatment, The Grossman Burn Center utilizes skilled mental health professionals to provide intensive psychotherapeutic intervention while a patient is hospitalized. For those patients who require mental health care post discharge, those services are available as well. We also offer supportive intervention for family members as well as twice monthly burn survivor support groups open to anyone in the community who has been affected by a burn injury.
