PREVENTION OF BURNS TO OLDER ADULTS
GROSSMAN BURN CENTERS
As people get older they are at higher risk of burn injuries and death from hot liquid scalds and accidental fires. Changes in vision, comprehension, and mobility that accompany aging, combined with medication side effects, put seniors at higher risk. The Grossman Burn Foundation and the Grossman Burn Center are jointly addressing this risk by offering a no-charge burn prevention presentation for seniors and those who work with older adults. This program addresses burn injury and death statistics, risk factors, degrees of burn, common senior burns and their prevention and first aid. The program, available in English or Spanish, takes about 45 minutes and each participant receives reading material and prevention items to use in the home.
